  1. Adapt to the Appropriate Grading Scale:

Some institutes use different grading scales such as the 4.0 or 5.0 scale. In these cases, you need to adjust your conversion methods. On the 4.0 scale, a CGPA of 4.0 is usually equal to 100%.

Why Multiply By 9.5?

To arrive at the 9.5 multiplier, CBSE correlates the results for the past 5 years and gets the average marks of all those students whose marks were above the 91 to 100 percentiles.

With this range of percentile, the best percentage is 95 marks, which is equal to the A1 grade, or 91-100 marks, which is a GPA of 10. Similarly, CBSE divided 95 by 95 to get 9.5 times the CGPA.

Advantages of the CGPA System

Now, let’s understand the merits of the CGPA system. The main purpose of this system is to decrease the academic pressure on students to a certain level.  The actual pedagogical scores and their corresponding marks are not counted in the student’s official transcript. However, CGPA will represent the achievements of the academic year.

Also, the CGPA system gives students a gist about their strengths and weaknesses. Additionally, it prevents the students from getting worried about obtaining a top grade. CGPA gives you required academic qualifications and helps you to get a nice job, and to become a good version of yourself.

Another huge advantage of CGPA is to measure the student’s ability through internal assignments, their ability to participate in class discussion and overall performance in other major examinations. With the help of an earlier percentage system, grades were the only way to determine if the student was studying properly or not. Meanwhile, CGPA helps to determine whether students understand the concepts of each subject or not.
